# Rentan Suyeong: I was full and kept eating the beef makchang

> A second stop next door to Bogwangdang. Grilled cuttlefish and Daegu-style beef makchang on one plate, plus roasted chestnuts for showing a receipt.

After raw beef and a cheeseburger at [Bogwangdang](/en/blog/suyeong-bogwangdang-20260827/), we moved next door to Rentan at about 8 on a Thursday evening. I was already full.

Rentan is a bar that serves food grilled over coal briquettes, and I have been many times. On [my visit in March](/en/blog/suyeong-rentan-20260324/) I had the seasoned Korean pork cartilage ribs. On [another visit in September](/en/blog/suyeong-rentan-20260919/) I ordered only the cuttlefish. I was told the briquettes they use are patented and that there are more than twenty things they can grill over them.

The signature dish is the cuttlefish, and it is what I usually pick. This time I ordered the Daegu-style beef makchang along with it.

The cuttlefish was grilled golden on the outside and springy to bite. I liked the richness of the butter too. As for the makchang, I liked it enough to keep reaching for it even though I was full.

If you show a receipt from Bogwangdang, they give you roasted chestnuts. I got some as well. I do not know whether the two places have the same owner.

There is a display of whisky inside. It has more room than the bar next door, which made it a good second stop. It is closed on Sundays and has no parking of its own. The shop points people to a paid lot next to the post office, to the right of the Paldo Market entrance.

I expect to keep ordering the cuttlefish, and next time I may add the chicken feet or chicken skewers.
