# Yongwon Hoechojang, Jinhae: very fresh shrimp and octopus, low prices

> In Yongwon, Jinhae, we bought shrimp, abalone, and octopus at a seafood shop and took them upstairs across the road to be cooked. All of it was fresh.

On a Wednesday morning I ran some errands with family, and afterwards we were hungry. I had heard you can eat grilled shellfish cheaply in Yongwon, Jinhae, so we drove over. We arrived at about 3 in the afternoon.

It turned out the grilled shellfish place had been torn down, so we dropped that plan. Instead we were pointed to a place that cooks what you buy at Miju Susan, a seafood shop. That place is Yongwon Hoechojang, on the second floor of the building across the road from the shop.

At Miju Susan we bought shrimp, abalone, and octopus. They gave us sea squirt for free. They were also selling mud crabs, which caught my eye. But the shrimp and octopus we had already picked looked like plenty, so I left the crab for another time.

At the restaurant, the sea squirt comes out with the basic table setting.

We had all of the shrimp salt-grilled.

I wished I had kept a few back to eat raw.

All of the seafood was very fresh. What we paid for it was low, and the charge for cleaning and steaming felt low too.

I was driving, so I chose a non-alcoholic beer. I was sorry to be limited in what I could drink.

Yongwon Hoechojang is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Miju Susan daily from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Next time I would like to try the mud crab. Eleven days later [I did go back for it](/en/blog/jinhae-yongwon-hoechojang-20260920/).
